McKown, Moore Garner MVC Award, Scholar-Athlete Teams Announced

ST. LOUIS -- The Missouri Valley Conference announced the 2011 Outdoor Track and Field All-Conference and Scholar-Athlete recipients with several Wichita State University track and field athletes recognized for their accolades at the MVC Championships.

Todd McKown and Audacia Moore were honored with the men's and women's Missouri Valley Conference Outstanding Track Athlete award following their performance at the outdoor championships.  McKown won his second straight conference crown in the men's 110-meter hurdles as the Valley Center, Kan., native crossed the finish line in 13.81, only 0.05 away from his all-time best.  McKown also had a top-five time in the men's 200-meter dash, clocking in at 21.73.

Moore was the top finisher in the women's 100-meter and 200-meter dash events and earned another all-conference award in the triple jump as the Wichita Heights High School alum leaped 40' 6.25", the sixth best mark in Shocker history.  Moore's time in the 100-meter dash set a new WSU record, a mark that Moore had her eyes on since the record was held by her mother, Alicia McQueen.

In addition to the all-conference awards the Scholar-Athlete recipients were announced by the Valley.  Thirty-four men and forty-nine women were named to this year's Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete team. The honor is given to a student-athlete that has maintained at least a 3.2 GPA, is at least a sophomore in academic standing, and placed in the top eight at the Track and Field Conference Championship. Wichita State and Southern Illinois had the highest recognition on this year's Scholar-Athlete team, both with nineteen male and female student-athletes.
