Wichita State Student Services
The Wichita State Athletic Student Services department is located in the Downing Academic Learning Center in Charles Koch Arena. The Student Services department is staffed by a graduate assistant, ShockerLIFE intern, two academic coordinators, Director of Athletic Academic Services, Director of Compliance and the Associate Athletic Director of Compliance. Each team is assigned an academic coordinator who is responsible for contact with designated student athletes, supervision of tutorial services, and monitoring the student's academic progress among other responsibilities.
The WIN program is a structured, hands-on, individualized and intrusive study hall program that focuses on student effort rather than the number of hours required per week. The program teaches time management, organization and study skills through the setting of weekly objectives based on course requirements.
Academic Mentors are used on the front-line with students to model successful academic behavior and to assist with the implementation of the program. Academic mentors write weekly narratives on students to keep Academic Coordinators and Coaches updated on S/A progress.
The tutoring program is available to all student-athletes and in all academic areas of study. To request tutorial help, stop by the ICAA Athletic Student Services Office and speak to your academic coordinator. If the request is approved, you will be assigned a tutor — requesting a tutor is up to the student-athlete. We assign tutors based off the student-athlete and the tutor’s schedule. Appointments can be made on a daily or weekly basis.
All new freshman and transfer student-athletes are required to accumulate 5 hours of study hall per week in their first semester. After your first semester of attendance at Wichita State University and continuing through the completion of your fourth semester, the number of study hall hours will be determined by your academic performance the previous semester. Once a student-athlete enrolls in his/her fifth semester (except for a first-time semester), the number of study hall hours required will be determined by your previous semester's GPA or your cumulative GPA, whichever benefits the student-athlete.
