Shockers Second at Jacobs Invite

NORMAN, Okla.  --
 Wichita State's men's and women's track and field teams were both second at the John Jacobs Invitational Friday night and Saturday on the campus of the University of Oklahoma.

OU out-distanced the Shocker men, 180-157, while the Sooner women scored 250 points to the Shockers' 113.

On Saturday individually for the men, Austin Corley took top honors in the 400 meter hurdles with a personal best time of 52.16. 

For the Wichita State women on Saturday, a quartet of Shockers took third-place in their respective events:

-Rebekah Topham ran a personal best 2:13.60 in the 800 meters.
-Ashley Petersen jumped 5-5.25/1.66m in the high jump.
-Page Stuhlsatz cleared a personal record 12-8/3.86m in the pole vault.
-Andrea Navarro threw the javelin 141-5/43.10m.

Navarro led a group of Shocker Javelin throwers who finished third through seventh and took seven of the top 10 places. WSU also got a pair of fifth-places from Kelsey Slawson in the shot put (46-7.25/14.20m) and Sadie Suenram in the discus (167-5.75/51.04m).

Other standouts for the men included:

-Shazz Michael Lindo took second in the triple jump with a distance of 50-5.25/15.37m.
-Ugis Jocis and Brady Johnson finished 2-3 in the mile run with times of 4:10.44 and 4:14.92, respectively.
-Skylar Arneson and Zach Loesch went 2-3 in the shot put with personal record distances of 57-1.75/17.41 and 56-4.25/17.17m.
-Jacob James was second in the 110 hurdles with a time of 14.40.
-Chris Peters was fourth in the pole vault, clearing a height of 17-01/5.18m.
-Damien Odle and Chase Pote were fourth and fifth with distances of 210-3.5/64.09m and 206-9.25/63.02m, respectively.
-Paul Raymond and Kyle Larkin finished fifth and sixth in the 3,000 meters with times of 8:47.83 and 8:50.43.

On Friday night, Wichita State hammer throwers Weston Cottrell and Skylar Arneson finished 1-2 in the men's competition, and Jamesia Milton finished third in the women's hammer throw. Cottrell's second throw gave him the lead at 61.85 meters, and he sealed the win with his final throw of 62.39 m (204-8.5). Skylar Arneson took second with his first throw of 60.34 meters (197-11.75).

In the women's hammer, Jamesia Milton's first throw of 58.84 meters (193-0.75) was good enough to take third place behind Oklahoma's Julia Reedy (206-11.25) and Ashley Bryant (198-7.25).

Sadie Suenram finished 12th with a throw of 43.06 meters (141-3.5).
