MANHATTAN, Kan. – Wichita State's
Jason Parrish and
Josh Parrish both broke the Shockers' 23-year-old program record in the 200-meter dash Friday evening at the Steve Miller Invitational.
The Parrish twins went 1-2 in their heat of the 200, finishing second and third overall, as
Jason Parrish set a new school record with a personal-best time of 21.01, and
Josh Parrish ran the second-fastest time in school history with a personal best of 21.07. The record was previously held by Shannon Armstrong, who ran 21.19 in 2003.
Prior to his record-breaking performance in the 200,
Josh Parrish won back-to-back events, jumping an indoor personal best of 7.45m/24'5.5" to win the long jump and running 7.71, just 0.01 seconds off his personal best and school record 60-meter hurdles time to win the final. Shannon Armstrong's nephew,
Jabari Armstrong, moved up to No. 9 all-time in school history in the 60-meter hurdles with a personal-best time of 7.89 in the prelim before finishing third in the final with a time of 7.91.
In the women's long jump,
Jelese Alexander joined the six-meter club, jumping 6.01m/19'8.75" to place fourth and move up to No. 8 all-time in school history. Alexander also jumped well in the high jump, clearing 1.74m/5'8.5" to take second.

Kaleb Tesmer cleared 2.06m/6'9" in his first meet in uniform this season, placing third
Back on the track, freshman
Zakilya Zeigler finished second in the 400 meters, running a personal-best time of 55.09, ranking fifth in school history.
The Shockers have wrapped up their regular season and will head to Birmingham, Ala. Feb. 27-28 for the American Conference Indoor Championships at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
