CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Wichita State track and field claims four event titles on the final day of the American Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships as the Shocker men recorded a runner-up team finish, and the women took sixth Saturday at the Irwin Belk Track and Field Center.
Sophomores
Josh Parrish and
Jason Parrish swept the men's hurdles, and
Farrah Miller and
Yared Kidane swept the 800-meter titles for the Shockers to highlight day three.
Josh Parrish won the first crown of the day, setting a new facility record in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 13.56. Seven races later, his twin
Jason Parrish set a 400-meter hurdles facility record and meet record, running the fourth-fastest time in the NCAA this year to win the event in 49.17. Also scoring in the hurdles,
Tyler Carroll finished sixth and
Jaleel Montgomery finished eighth in the 110-meter hurdles, and
Sadie Millard took seventh in the 400-meter hurdles.
In the 800 meters,
Farrah Miller claimed her first AAC title and fifth all-conference award, running a personal-best time of 2:04.37 to win the race by a second, and
Yared Kidane completed the indoor/outdoor 800-meter sweep with a time of 1:49.54. Kidane also finished on the podium in the 1500 meters, taking second with a time of 3:51.00.
Also earning a spot on a podium,
Destiny Masters claimed her 11
th and final all-conference award of her career with a third-place performance in the high jump, clearing 1.78m/5'10" in her 11
th event of the meet.
The Shocker men's 4x100-meter relay team of
Joakim Genereux,
Jason Parrish,
Josh Parrish and Montgomery recorded a runner-up finish with a time of 39.68 to land on the podium. Montgomery went on to score four points in the 100 meters, running 10.54 to finish fifth, and Genereux finished sixth in the 200 meters with a season-best time of 20.99 to score three points. The women's 4x100-meter relay team of
Faith Turner,
Kate Campos,
Sydney Brown and
Sadie Millard also scored points, finishing seventh with a time of 45.69.
Kelvin Acheampong recorded his best triple jump mark of the season, jumping 15.21m/49'11" to place fourth and score five points for the Shockers.
Three Shocker men scored six points in the high jump with
Kaleb Tesmer,
Travon Williams and
Luke Czarnecki all clearing 2.03m/6'8" to place sixth, seventh and eighth, respectively, and Marrisa Jensen scored points in the women's high jump with a sixth-place performance, clearing 1.65m/5'5".
In the discus,
Athan Huelskamp placed sixth in the men's competition to score three points with a throw of 52.92m/173'7", and
Reese Goodlet took fifth in the women's competition with a throw of 48.13m/157'11" to score four points.
Adrian Diaz Lopez collected four more points for the Shockers with a fifth-place finish in the 5,000 meters, running 14:26.24, and the Wichita State men's 4x400-meter relay just missed the podium, taking fourth with a time of 3:09.07, the ninth-fastest time in school history.
The men's pole vault squad scored six points as
Caden Carlson and
Weston Hulse cleared 4.76m/15'7.25" to place sixth and seventh, respectively, and
Rikard Trogen Hedin cleared 4.61m/15'1.5" to take eighth.
Wichita State finished the meet with seven conference champions, its most event titles since 2019, and 16 total podiums.
The South Florida men and Charlotte women both repeated as the AAC outdoor team champions. The Bulls won with 173.5 points, and the 49ers won with 123 points. Wichita State's men ended with 155 points for second, and the women scored 68 points for sixth.
