Parrish, Vaulters Post New Conference Leads at Oregon

EUGENE, Ore. – Three Wichita State track and field athletes recorded conference-leading marks Saturday at the Oregon Team Invitational at Hayward Field.
 
Shocker sophomores, Shellamae Farmer and Kylie Scott tied for second in the pole vault with personal-best clearances of 4.06m/13'3.75", taking the American Conference lead. Freshman Lilly Charest took fourth with a personal-best clearance of 3.91m/12'10" to rank fourth in the conference. All three Shockers moved up the Wichita State all-time list, tying for sixth and ranking 10th, respectively.
 
Freshman Ty Bybee moved up to No. 5 in the American Conference with a pole vault win and a clearance of 5.10m/16'8.75", leading the Shocker men to a 1-2-3 sweep as Carson Ratzlaff and Liam Miller placed second and third with jumps of 4.90m/16'0.75" and 4.80m/15'9", respectively.
 
In the 400-meter hurdles, junior Jason Parrish improved his conference lead to 50.41, good for 19th in the nation, to claim this third hurdles win in three races this season. His twin, Josh Parrish ran his first 110-meter hurdles race of the season, finishing second with the No. 2 time in the conference, 13.68, to rank No. 30 in the nation.
 
The Parrish twins teamed up with Brody Anderson and Chairo Ogbebor to clock the second-fastest 4x100-meter relay time in school history, running 39.66 to finish second and move up to third in the conference. Ogbebor went on to take second in the invite 100-meter dash with a time of 10.35.
 
In the men's 1500 meters, junior Kelvin Kipyego record the No. 2 time in the conference, running 3:42.50 to finish ninth in a race where Oregon's Simeon Birnbaum broke the collegiate record with a time of 3:31.69. In the women's 1500, Vivien Kipkorir ran the No. 10 time in school history, 4:29.20, to finish 10th.
 
In the steeplechase, Francesca Alvarado and Jonah Allison each posted No. 4 times in the conference, Alvarado running 10:44.72 to finish seventh in the women's race and move up to No. 10 in school history, and Allison running 9:01.11 to finish fourth in the men's race.
 
In the throws, Margo Todd took fifth in the discus with the No. 8 throw in school history, throwing 47.32m/155'3". And Jenna Kuepker threw a season-best 47.01m/154'4" to place third in the javelin.
