WSU Women Win Shocker Prelude Title

WICHITA, Kan. –
The Wichita State women's track and field team collected 12 individual titles to help win the team title with 216 points, while the men's team won six individual titles and placed second with 132 on Saturday at the 2016 Shocker Prelude held in the Heskett Center.
 
Friends University claimed first place on the men's side with 147 points, while Oklahoma Baptist collected 122 points to take third place and Emporia State finished in fourth place with 111. Rounding out the women's side, Emporia State took second with 171 points, Oklahoma Baptist took third with 166, Angelo State was fourth with 122 and Friends took fifth with 121.

WSU's competitors included most of the individuals who didn't compete at the WSU-KU-KSU Triangular Friday in Lawrence, Kan.
 
The men started off the day strong, sweeping the weight throw, Taylor Goldsmith taking first place (19.97m), Skylar Arneson in second place (19.49m) and Weston Cottrell in third place (18.83m).
 
Austin Chippeaux finished first in the men's high jump with a jump of 2.06m, tying his personal best, while Zach Budda finished in third place with a jump of 1.90m.
 
Zach Loesch won the men's shot put with a giant throw of 17.07m, setting a new personal record for himself and a new Shocker Prelude record. His throw also moved him into sixth place on the WSU all-time indoor shot put list. Arneson also finished in second place with a throw of 16.32m.
 
Wichita State swept the men's pole vault with Chris Peters taking first place with a personal best of 5.16m. Hayden Bugner and Tyler Knight came in second and third, respectively, with vaults of 4.91m and 4.76m.
 
With a personal best by more than 10 seconds, Nathan Wickoren won the mile with a time of 4:17.04. A.J. Stephens took second place in the men's 60m hurdles with a personal best of 8.16, while Tyler Knight came in at third place with a time of 8.44.
 
In the men's 3,000m, Dray Carson finished in first place with a time of 8:48.12, while teammate Gage Garcia finished in second place with a time of 8:54.13.
 
On the women's side, Jamesia Milton began the day with a strong throw of 18.97m in the weight throw, while Alexandra Adams finished in third place with a personal best throw of 14.45m. With personal bests, Courtney Lies won the women's long jump, with a jump of 5.37m, and Meghan Holmes came in third with a jump of 5.30m.
 
In the women's shot put, the Shockers took first and third with Kelsey Slawson winning with a mark of 13.54m, and Alexandra Adams finishing third with a mark of 12.58m.
 
Wichita State swept the women's pole vault, with Taylor Swanson taking first place, (3.84m), Meg Loontjer taking second, (3.69m), and Page Stuhlsatz taking third with a personal best, (3.69m). Wichita State continued its strong start with Annette Hodges finishing in first place in the women's triple jump with a jump of 11.70m, while Addy Moser came in second with a jump of 11.03m.
 
With a jump of 1.71m, Ashley Petersen was able to win the women's high jump. The next Shocker to finish was Katie Murray finishing in sixth place with a jump of 1.61m. Taylor Larch-Miller took first place in the women's 60m hurdles with a time of 8.59 while Breanne Borman finished right behind her in second place with a time of 8.67.
 
In the women's 60m, Angie Vailas narrowly beat her personal best, taking second place in the event with a time of 7.71. Lauren Pickens also set a new personal best with a time of 58.49, which was good enough to take first place in the women's 400m.
 
In the women's 800m, Sarah Wright was able to finish in first place with a time of 2:20.74.
 
Both Raianna Maples and Morgan Prather tied for second place in the women's 200m, with times of 25.877. Jordan Maestas was also able to finish in third place of the 3,000m run with a time of 10:31.28.

In the women's 4x400m, Wichita State (A) took first place with a time of 3:56.52, with second place Angelo State (A) coming in at 4:02.48.
 
The Shockers are next in action on Friday, Jan. 22, as they travel to Lincoln, Neb., for the Nebraska Wesleyan Invitational.
