ST LOUIS - Senior Stephanie Dalmacio was named the Missouri Valley Conference tennis athlete of the week for her undefeated performance during the week of March 30-April 4.
During the Shockers' red hot 3-0 weekend, Dalmacio won every time she stepped on the court at the No. 1 doubles and No. 2 singles positions.
Dalmacio kicked off the weekend with a 6-3, 6-3 singles win against UNI. She partnered with sophomore Lutfiana Budiharto in the first doubles match the duo has played together since early March. Together they defeated Laia-Gonzalez-Garrido and Talia Jang-Stewart at the No. 1 position, 8-6. The Shocker duo would pick up another victory together against Marquette's Christina Ruiz and Rachael Hush in the nightcap of the Shockers' double header on Saturday. In singles play against the Golden Eagles, she defeated Olga Fischer, 6-2, 6-2 while racking up six aces in the Shockers' Serve for the Cure Fundraiser Event.
On Sunday, Dalmacio teamed up with sophomore Delia Damaschin to reunite the No. 33 doubles tandem in the country. They knocked off Drake's Manca Krizman and Gabriela Demos in the No. 1 spot, 8-1. She then went 6-3, 6-0 against Demos to help the Shockers defeat the Bulldogs start conference play 3-0.
Others nominated include: Emily Whitney, Southern Illinois; Manca Krizman, Drake; Aleksandra Dzakula, Evansville; Natalia Lech, Illinois State.
Wichita State is next in action on April 10 when the Shockers travel to Illinois to take on Bradley on Saturday and Illinois State on Sunday.
