TULSA, Okla. -- Wichita State's Stephanie Dalmacio defeated top-seeded Ela Kalunder from Arkansas 6-4, 7-6 to advance to the quarterfinals at the ITA Regional championship Friday in Tulsa. She will face Denver's Ute Schnoy, the #8 seed, in Saturday's quarterfinal play. Schnoy defeated WSU's Lenore Lazaroiu 6-0, 6-1 to advance to the quarterfinals.
To get to Kalunder, Dalmacio had to put her skills to work against Oklahoma State's Natalie Shatkovskaya in the main draw's round of 32. Dalmacio came out victorious 6-3, 6-3 to set up the match with Kalunder.
In the singles backdraw, Florentina Hanisch squeaked by Oklahoma's Tara Eckel 6-2, 7-6 (3), 10-4, in the round of 32, while Anna Egorova defeated Southeat Missouri's Bryce Kristal 6-1, 6-2.
In the backdraw round of 16, Hanisch defeated Arkansas's Audrey Bordeleau 6-2, 7-6 (4), while Egorova fell to Polina Kokoulina from Boise State 6-2, 6-7 (5), 11-9.
Hanisch will take on Utah's Jane Kryuchkova Saturday morning in the consolation quarterfinals.
In doubles play, Hanisch/Lazaroiu defeated Oklahoma State's Irna Tkachenko/Maryna Tkachenko 9-7 to advance to the main draw quarterfinals. The Shocker duo will take on Nebraska's Jana Albers/Imke Reimer in quarterfinal play on Saturday.
