WICHITA—The Wichita State men's and women's track and field teams concluded their weekend with performances at the Iowa State Classic, Gorilla Classic and Tyson Invitational.
 
Joseph Holthusen and Antonio Norman etched their names in Shocker history in the 60-meter hurdles at the Gorilla Classic in Pittsburg. Norman and Holthusen both ran 8.01 in the prelims to advance to the final race.
 
Norman finished fourth in 7.93 seconds and Joseph Holthusen finished fifth in 7.96 seconds. Norman's new PR puts him at No. 4 in Wichita State school history and Holthusen moves to a tie for fifth.
 
"It is really exciting having these two guys operating at a high-level in the 60-meter hurdles," said Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Steve Rainbolt. "Antonio Norman has been a fabulous addition to our team and he and Joseph are able to push each other in training and competition. Both of them are getting better because of it. 
 
"Today was a very good day for those two guys I think it will continue to prove successful."
 
Norman anchored the Shockers' 4X400-meter relay that finished fourth. The squad of JD Prinsloo, Adam Gauzy, Austin Corley and Norman finished with a time of 3:15.51.
 
On the women's side in Pittsburg, Paula Garcia set a new personal best time. Garcia set a new PR in the 400 meters with a time of 56.70 seconds, which took about one-half second off her previous best.
 
Taniyah McMillian, Tianna Holmes, Garcia and Daysha Bullocks ended the night by running the 10th-best 4X400-meter relay time in school history indoors. The squad finished with a time of. 3:46.94 to finish second at the meet.
 
Adam Moore put his name in the Wichita State record books in the Mile at the Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa. Moore ran a 4:06.71 for 20th in a field full of pros and college elites.
 
Moore's time of 4:06.71 puts him at No. 8 on the all-time WSU indoor performance list. His time puts him ahead of national champion Einars Tupuritis on the performance list.
 
Yazmine Wright was the lone Shocker woman to run in Ames. She dropped her Mile personal best by nearly three seconds, running a time of 4:54.76.
 
Only three athletes participated at the Tyson Invitational. The trio of Alex Adams, Amanda Kakoulias and Anna Zimmer threw the shot put and all three placed in the top 25.
 
Overall, Rainbolt said even though not everything went well for his teams, there were positives to be taken away from the day.
 
"This was a significant day for our program," Rainbolt said. "It did not all go well but we certainly had some moves in the right direction at three different locations for different parts of our team. 
 
"I think we learned a lot and our athletes are gearing up for a strong finish to the indoor season"
