The Wichita State men's track and field team tied for second in the inaugural American Conference Indoor Track and Field Coaches' Poll, the conference announced Thursday morning.
Voted on by the head coaches around the conference, the Wichita State men received 49 points, including one first-place vote, tying with Charlotte for the No. 2 spot behind South Florida (64 points, 8 first-place votes) in the poll. The Shocker women received 66 points to tie with Memphis for eighth in the poll, while the Tulane women were selected to win the conference with eight first-place votes and 135 points.
Both Wichita State teams are expected to move up in the indoor championship results after the men finished third out of nine teams and the women placed ninth out of 13 teams a season ago in Birmingham, Ala. The American Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships will again take place at the Birmingham CrossPlex from Feb. 27-28, 2026.
The Shockers return four conference champions from the 2025 American Conference Outdoor Championships, including two-time All-American
Jason Parrish and NCAA Outdoor Championship qualifier in three events,
Josh Parrish. Wichita State's men's squad welcomes 14 newcomers to the track, including 2025 Cross Country All-American Elkana Kipruto.
The Wichita State women return 2024 NCAA Outdoor Championship qualifier
Lucy Ndungu and 2025 American Conference Outdoor pole vault runner-up
Arantxa Cortez. The Shockers welcome 17 female newcomers, including 2025 American Conference Cross Country Freshman of the Year,
Mercy Jepkoech.
