Shockers Head West to California

WICHITA, Kan. — The Wichita State women's team continues their fall campaign at the 2017 Riviera Women All-American Championships beginning Saturday, Sept. 30. Matches will be held at Pepperdine University and the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
 
Sophomore Fatima Bizhukova and Senior Gabriela Porubin were selected to the main draw of the Championships and will start play Oct. 5 at the Riviera Tennis Club. The No. 16 ranked duo are the second WSU women's doubles team to ever make the main draw of the All-American Championships. Alison Passmore and Jane White made it in 1996. The tandem is off to a hot start in the fall season, going 3-0 at the Mizzou Invite last weekend, including a 6-3 win over Marta Oliveira and Amina Ismail of Mizzou who rank No. 32 in ITA doubles rankings.
 
In singles action, Bizhukova is on the pre-qualifying list for the Shockers. She will start play Saturday, Sept. 30 on the campus of Pepperdine University. She is currently ranked No. 102 in singles, according to ITA National College rankings.
 
Singles quarterfinalists, consolation singles champion and finalist, along with doubles semifinalists and consolation doubles champion and finalist advance to the end of fall national championship.
 
The 2017 Riviera ITA Women's All-American Championship will be held at the Riviera Country Club and Pepperdine University in Pacific Palisades, Calif. Sep. 30-Oct. 8. Pre-qualifying takes place Sept. 30-Oct. 1, qualifying on Oct. 3-4 and main draw action Oct. 5-8.
