LUBBOCK, Texas - The Wichita State women's golf team ended the first day of the 2016-17 season tied for 12th after two rounds at the Red Raider Invitational.

Taryn Torgerson, who ended last season with her first win as a Shocker at the MVC Championships, ended day one tied for 17th after shooting 77 in round one and 72 in round two. Torgerson ended the day 6-over par. 

Transfer sophomore Laine Evans began her career as a Shocker tied for 38th after day one. Evans shot 75 and 78 in rounds one and two to finish the day 9-over par. 

Gavrilla Arya, the 2016 Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Year, began her sophomore year with a 76 in round one and 79 in round two. Arya ended the day tied for 45th and 11-over par. 

Freshman Annika Chickering also began her Shocker career by shooting 78 in both rounds one and two. She finished day one tied for 48th and 12-over par. 

Samantha Stewart rounded out the Wichita State team tied for 67th after an 84 in round one and 80 in round two. Stewart finished at 20-over par. 

New Mexico State held pole position at the conclusion of day one with team totals of 294 in round one and 291 in round two, finishing at 9-over par. Tournament hosts Texas Tech held second place with 291 and 297 in rounds one and two, ending at 12-over par. Oregon filled the third position shooting 300 and 291, ending day one at 15-over par. 

The tournament concludes tomorrow on The Rawls Course at 8:30 a.m. CT with a shotgun start.
