MANHATTAN, Kan. – Wichita State opens play in the Powercat Invitational on Monday at Colbert Hills Golf Club, the final team tournament of the fall season.
Â
In their last tournament, the Shockers finished ninth in a strong field at the Oklahoma Intercollegiate on Oct. 7 at Prairie Dunes Country Club. It was the first time this year Wichita State did not place in the top five, but the team still finished ahead of three top-100 programs: Nebraska, Iowa and Abilene Christian.
Â
Senior
Mackenzie Wilson saw her streak of top-10 finishes end at Prairie Dunes, but she has still had a standout season. She holds a team-best stroke average of 74.4 and leads the Shockers in birdies with 26.
Â
At last year's Powercat Invitational, Wichita State placed eighth with a score of 919, 55 strokes over par.
Brooklyn Benn led the team by tying for 20th, while
Kate Tilma followed closely, tying for 23rd.
Â
Among the field, Kansas State is the highest-ranked team at No. 43. Northern Colorado is the next highest at No. 126. The Shockers have faced four teams in this week's field — Cincinnati, South Dakota, Lindenwood and Kansas State — and have topped all but the host Wildcats.
