USAF Academy, Colo. -- Wichita State's men's team finished second, and the women's team third, at the Air Force Team Challenge Friday night inside Cadet Field House, while the Shocker distance runners competed at the Meyo Invitational Friday with competition continuing Saturday at Notre Dame.
The Air Force men won the team event over Wichita State, 149-133, while North Dakota State was third with 109 points and South Dakota was fourth with 68 points. WSU's men collected five individual titles led by
Jared Belardo's two titles in the horizontal jumps.
On the women's side, South Dakota won with 131 points, narrowly topping North Dakota State which had 130 points. WSU was third with 126 points and Air Force was fourth with 67. WSU's women won five individual titles led by
Taylor Larch-Miller's titles in the 60 meters, 60 meter hurdles and the 200 meters.
Wichita State swept the men's weight throw with
Taylor Goldsmith winning the event with a toss of 66-10.
Skylar Arneson finished second, and
Weston Cottrell was third, with throws of 66-8.75 and 63-1.25, respectively.
The men also went 1-2 in the long jump with
Jared Belardo winning the event with a leap of 24-7.75, and
Kaden Griffin second at 22-11. Belardo swept the two horizontal jumps, also winning the triple jump of 51-2.25. Griffin was fourth at 45-9.25.
Tucker Davis won the 200 meters in a time of 21.77 while
Cody Scheck finished third in 22.00.
A.J. Stephens won the 60 meter hurdles in 8.16
The men's mile relay was second in 3:20.62, while
Garret Lynch was also second in the high jump with a height of 6-10.75.
WSU's other third-place finisher included
Hayden Bugner in the pole vault with a height of 16-6.75.
Wichita State's women again opened the meet with a title in the women's weight throw after
Jamesia Milton won with a distance of 66-1.75.
The Shockers got a 1-2-3-4 finish from
Taylor Larch-Miller,
Raianna Maples,
Angie Vailas and
Deja Young in the 60 meters with times of 7.632, 7.636, 7.70 and 7.72, respectively. Larch-Miller also won the 60 meter hurdles in a time of 8.49 and the 200 meters in a time of 24.56.
Larch-Miller's title in the 60 meter hurdles capped another 1-2-3 finish by the Shockers as
Emily Doffing and
Marteshia Caines were second and third with times of 8.711 and 8.72, respectively.
Courtney Mills won the long jump with a distance of 19-0.5, while she was third in the triple jump at 39-1.25.
Marteisha Caines was second in the high jump with a height of 5-8 while
Ashley Petersen jumped 5-7 to finish third.
The women's mile relay team was third in 4:00.47.
At the Meyo Invitational on Friday, the Shocker Distance Medley Relay team of
Rebekah Topham,
Savannah Wright,
Emilea Finley and
Sidney Hirsch finished seventh in a time of 11:45.73. Michigan won the event in a time of 11:23.45.
In men's action at the Meyo Invitational,
Brady Johnson was fifth in the 5,000 meters in a time of 14:20.74 while
Paul Raymond was 13th in 14:34.72.
WSU's distance runners continue competition Saturday at the Meyo Invite with the men's 800 meters and Mile, and the women's 3,000 meters and the Mile. |
