Shockers Third in Kansas Triangular Friday

LAWRENCE, Kan.  --  Wichita State's men's and women's track and field teams finished second and third, respectively, at the Annual Kansas Triangular Friday afternoon at Anschutz Pavilion. 

WSU's men finished second with 110 points behind KU's 126 while KSU was third with 109 points.

Kansas also won the women's team event with 128 points to Kansas State's 125. WSU was third with 93 points.

The meet was scored based on the top-two finishers in each event from each school. It is the second-straight year for the in-state triangular meet format. Each team was allotted 26 team members.

On the men's side, Jared Belardo won both the triple jump with personal record of 51' 11", and the long jump with a distance of 24-7.

Taylor Goldsmith won the weight throw with a school record throw of 68' 1.75", while Weston Cottrell's 63' 2" put him in third. 

Connor Stine was second in the men's 800m with a time of 1:57.09 followed closely by Ugis Jocis, who finished in third. Jocis won the men's mile with a time of 4:16.14.

Brady Johnson was third in the men's 3000m with a time of 8.38.88.

Colton Mays was third in the men's 600m with a time of 1:14.72.

In the 60 meter dash Nick Dow was second with a time of 6.95 and Cody Scheck was third.

Tucker Davis was third in the 400m with a time of 49.42.

AJ Stephens was second in a very close 60m hurdle race with a new personal best time of 8.20.

Chris Peters finished the men's pole vault with a second place finish with a height of 16' 2.75".

For the women, WSU's Taylor Larch-Miller was third in the women's 60m hurdles with a time of 8.54. 

Breanne Borman was also second in women's high jump with a personal best jump of 5' 8".

Sidney Hirsch won the women's 3000m with a time of 10:00.90, and Kayla Deighan finished in third.

Freshman Rebekah Topham won the women's mile with a time of 4:58.48.

Taylor Swanson vaulted 12' 7" to win the event, while Meg Loontjer was third in the women's pole vault.

Natalie Halfman finished the 600m in third with a time of 1:25.13.

Jamesia Milton was third in the women's weight throw with a throw of 64' 1.75".

WSU's men's and women's 4x400m teams both finished third, the women in 3:53.99, and the men in 3:19.89.

The Shockers are next in action Saturday when they play host to the Shocker Prelude inside the Heskett Center Indoor Track and Field facility. The event begins at 11 a.m. with field events and 3:30 p.m. with running events.
