LAWRENCE, Kan. - Wichita State dropped both games of Wednesday evening's doubleheader with inter-state rival Kansas at Arrocha Ballpark. The Jayhawks took game one, 9-1 in five innings, before completing the sweep with an 8-3 decision in game two.

Wichita State (7-31, 0-12) grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first inning of game one with a solo home run by sophomore Erin Carney. The home run was Carney's eighth of the season and fourth in her last eight games.

However, it was all Jayhawks from there as the home team scored two runs in the bottom of the first to take the lead, 2-1, and then extended that lead to 9-1 with seven additional runs in the second inning. The seven-run second inning included four doubles and six Jayhawk starters collected hits in the game.

Kansas starter Alicia Pille settled in after giving up the first inning home run to Carney and allowed only one more hit the rest of the game, a third inning single to Rachel Milnark, to earn her thirteenth victory of the season.

The evening's second game was a more competitive affair with the Shockers again jumping out to a 1-0 first inning lead. Sydney Stuever led off the inning with a double down the right field line and was driven in by Melanie Jaegers single up the middle.

Kansas (26-12, 3-9) answered back in the third inning with five runs to take a 5-1 lead. Most of that damage came courtesy of a three-run home run to left field by Mariah Montgomery.

Stuever continued her impressive game at the plate in the fourth inning delivering a two-run triple to left center scoring Layne Greenlee and Brianne Bond. Stuever finished the game 2-for-3 with a double, triple, walk and two RBI's.

The comeback from the Shockers proved to be short lived with Kansas adding two runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth inning to regain a four run lead, 7-3.

The Jayhawks added their final run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the sixth for the final 8-3 tally.

Carney tied the Wichita State single season record in the top of the seventh when she was hit by her 13th pitch of the season.

Wichita State will return to Missouri Valley Conference action and continue their late season road trip this weekend with a three game series at Evansville slated to begin with a Saturday doubleheader at noon.
