No. 33 Golden Hurricane Storms Past No. 68 Shocks

INDIAN WELLS, Calif. - Senior Stephanie Dalmacio notched her second win of the week against a highly-ranked team, but the Shockers couldn't hold off the No. 33 Tulsa Golden Hurricane on the last day of the Indian Wells Tournament on Friday.

"Steph battles for every point from start to finish," head coach Colin Foster said. "She's been playing solid tennis all spring. It'll be good to see how we respond from a tough pair of matches this next week at practice and next weekend against TCU and Notre Dame."

Tulsa (13-4) took the first match in the battle for the doubles point in the No. 1 match. Alexandra Kitouchkin and JoAnne Karaitiana worked quickly against the Shockers No. 22-ranked duo of Dalmacio and sophomore Delia Damaschin, 8-0.

The Shockers (5-8) surrendered the point in the No. 3 match when Rebecca Row and Michelle Farley bumped senior Florentina Hanisch and sophomore Lily Wakim, 8-2. Despite already losing the doubles point, senior Lenore Lazaroiu and sophomore Lutfiana Budiharto stole a match from Tulsa when they defeated Ewa Szatkowska and Anastasia Erofeeva, 8-3.

Heading into singles play with the 1-0 lead, Tulsa extended their lead with five-straight singles wins starting with Farley defeating Wakim in the No. 6 match, 6-0, 6-0. Kitouchkin then brought down No. 34 Budiharto in the top spot, 6-4, 6-3.

Lazaroiu fell to Erofeeva in the No. 3 spot, 7-5, 6-1. In the No. 4 position, Damaschin hung with Szatkowska but fell, 7-5, 6-4.

Hanisch found herself in another epic match on Friday. After taking a match to the super tiebreak against No. 25 Iowa, Hanisch did the same against Row in the No. 5 match, 3-6, 6-4, 10-6.

Dalmacio then knocked off the No. 2 player from a ranked team for the second day in a row. She toppled Karaitiana on Friday, 6-4, 7-5 to avoid the sweep.

The Shockers return home to prepare for the Shocker Classic on Mar. 26-28 where they will play host to a tournament field that includes national powerhouses TCU and Notre Dame.
