DES MOINES, Iowa -- Sunday's final round of the 2009 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Men's Individual Tennis Championships will feature four Shocker singles, and one WSU doubles tandem. 
Wichita State's doubles teams went 1-1 in Saturday's semi-final round. Matt Teivans and Jonathan Obrist advaced to the championship match with an 8-4 win over the Southern Illinois squad of Eric West and Felipe Villasenor, while Michal Zawadzki and Vladamir Marinescu dropped a 9-8 (7-5) heartbreaker to Illinois State's Daniel Tobar and Skip Span. 
The Shockers were 4-2 in singles flight play. Adrian Chermaci advaced to the Flight 2 championship with a 6-3, 6-4 win over SIU's Hugo Vidal, while Obrist picked p a 6-4, 6-4 win over SIU's Villasenor in the Flight 4 semifinal. David Cavalcati will play in the Flight 6 championship after Saturday's 7-6, 6-1 win over Illinois State's Michael Hobson, and Scott McCormick earned a berth in the Flight 7 Championship with a 6-1, 7-5 decision over Drake's Scott Buchowski. 
Marinescu and Matt Teivans suffered the only Shocker setbacks in championship bracket play. Marinescu dropped a 6-3, 6-4 decision to Drake's Maor Zirkin in Flight 1, while Teivans was defeated in three sets, 7-6, 3-6, 6-2, by Drake's Ricardo Lau. 
In back draw play, SIU's Pavlo Buryi defeated Rodrigo Briceno, 6-0, 6-2, while Milos Pavolvic handed Zawadzki a 6-3, 3-6 (10-5) loss. 
Sunday's championship rounds will bear striking similarity to last season's MVC Team Championships, as Drake Bulldogs will be the primary opponents in championship matches. Chermaci will face Drake's Mauricio Ballivian in the Flight 2 singles championship while Obrist will take the court opposite Drake's Guilherme Marsiglia in the Flight 4 championship. The Flight 6 championship will feature Cavalcanti and Drake's Ivan Medoza, while Scott McCormick will battle Drake's Konrad Kamizelich in the Flight 7 championship.
Marinescu will be the only Shocker not facing a Drake opponent when he takes the court opposite Bradley's Milos Romic in the Flight 1 Third Place match. 
 In doubles play, Teivans and Obrist will vie for the Flight 3 championship against Drake's Mendoza and Ballivian.
