Giles Breaks Three-Point Record, Shockers Win 5th Straight

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Wichita State picked up its fifth straight win and Kenyon Giles broke the single season three-point record in a 84-67 road win at UTSA Sunday night.

Wichita State (20-10, 12-5) recorded its first 20-win season since 2020 and maintains its second-place position in the American Conference standings with one game remaining.

Giles blistered the Roadrunners for 21 of his game-high 28 after halftime. With his five made three-pointers he ran his season total to 101, breaking the single season record at Wichita State. His record-breaking triple came with 11:23 remaining in the second half.

Dillon Battie set career highs in free throws made (9) and attempted (11), finishing with 13 points and six rebounds. Will Berg added his eighth double-double behind 10 points and 12 rebounds. TJ Williams chipped in 10 points and eight boards.

Wichita State dominated the glass, outrebounding the under-sized Roadrunners, 55-38. The Shockers extended their nation-leading streak of games with 10+ offensive rebounds to 24 in a row after grabbing 21 on the night.

After splitting the opening possessions, Wichita State seized control less than two minutes in. Giles scored in transition at the 18:16 mark to put the Shockers on the board, and the visitors steadily built momentum from there.

The Shockers' defensive pressure dictated the tempo early. UTSA managed just 7-of-34 shooting (20.6%) in the opening half, including 2-of-11 from three-point range. Wichita State converted turnovers and long rebounds into transition opportunities, finishing the game with 12 fast-break points.

Late in the half, the Shockers stretched the margin to double digits behind timely perimeter shooting and second-chance finishes. With six seconds left before the break, Giles buried a pull-up jumper in the paint to give Wichita State a 41-29 halftime advantage.

UTSA briefly trimmed the deficit to six early in the second half, but Wichita State answered emphatically.

At the 15:51 mark, Giles knocked down a three-pointer to extend the lead to nine. After a series of offensive rebounds and defensive stops, Berg scored consecutive tip-in layups at 14:41 and 13:43, pushing the margin to 12.

Moments later, Giles delivered again from beyond the arc at 13:18, stretching the advantage to 58-43. The sequence capped a decisive 12-0 Shockers run and gave Wichita State its largest lead of the night—18 points—with 11:24 remaining.

From there, the Shockers maintained control. A thunderous dunk by Emmanuel Okorafor with 5:13 left halted a UTSA push and restored a 15-point cushion. Later, with 3:09 remaining, Giles connected on another pull-up three to effectively seal the outcome at 77-63.

UTSA never drew closer than 11 the rest of the way.
