Shockers Complete Undefeated Weekend with Run-Rule Win over South Dakota

ARLINGTON, Texas — Wichita State run-ruled South Dakota, 14-6, in 6 innings in its final game of the Boerner Invitational on Sunday at Allan Saxe Field.
 
With the win, the Shockers (8-5) capped a flawless 5-0 weekend at the Boerner Invitational. They defeated South Dakota (3-12) in both their first and final games of the weekend.
 
Wichita State opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning when Ausha Moore came home from third on a fielder's choice.
 
After a scoreless second inning, Gabby Scott tripled the Shocker lead with a two-run home run, her second of the season. Jodie Epperson added an RBI single later in the inning, scoring Johnna Schroeder and extending the Shocker advantage to 4-0.
 
South Dakota answered in the fourth, scoring twice — once on a bases-loaded walk and once on a passed ball — to make it 4-2.
 
Wichita State responded in the bottom half of the inning as Scott notched her third RBI of the day with an RBI single that scored Mackenzie Rooney. After Moore scored on a passed ball, pinch hitter Catelyn Beckerley lined a single to right field to bring home Skyler Rodgers, putting the Shockers ahead 7-2.
 
The Coyotes answered with a run in the fifth on an RBI single, trimming the deficit to 7-3.
 
The Shockers responded in the bottom of the inning, taking advantage of two walks, a hit-by-pitch and an error by South Dakota to score three runs to extend the lead to 10-3.
 
South Dakota scored three runs in the top of the sixth to pull within 10-6.
 
In the bottom of the sixth, the Shockers quickly loaded the bases, and Brookelyn Livanec drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to make it 11-6. After Moore drew a walk, Scott followed with a bases-loaded walk and Morgan Lloyd added a sacrifice fly to make it 13-6.
 
With the bases still loaded, Kinzey Woody drew another walk to end the game in run-rule fashion.
 
Gabby Fakes (1-1) earned her first win as a Shocker in the circle. 
 
Epperson, Scott and Moore reached base in all of their plate appearances. Scott drove in five runs on the day while going 2-for-2 at the plate.
