BOSTON, Mass. – Wichita State's Elkana Kipruto claimed his third program record, running 13:37.79 in the 5K Saturday at the Boston University Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener.

The sophomore from El Doret, Kenya finished 18
th in the invitational section of the 5,000 meters, breaking Mornay Annandale's record of 14:06.23 set in 1992.

Two other Shockers recorded Wichita State all-time top-10 times as
Kelvin Kipyego finished his 3,000-meter race in 8:05.12, the second-fastest time in school history, and
Lucy Ndungu ran 16:18.89 in the 5,000 meters, the fifth-fastest time in Shocker history. Kipyego took 35
th, and Ndungu placed 77
th in their sections.
All three Shockers lead the conference in their respective events after the season opener.
Six other Shockers opened their season at the Shocker Multi, where freshman
Cole Smither took third in his collegiate debut with 4,883 points in the heptathlon and
Jaden Meyer was the top Wichita State finisher in the pentathlon with 2,838 points.
