SEDONA, Ariz. - The Wichita State women's golf team finished the first two rounds of the Red Rocks Invitational on Saturday, with the scores earning multiple places in the program's record books.
Junior Michelle Ledermann finished the first round of the Red Rocks Invitational with a new career low.
Her 2-under par performance in the first 18 holes set a new career low round score and marked the second time this season where a Shocker golfer has shot under 70. Freshman Hana Mirnik was the last to do it, shooting a 69 at the Payne Stewart Memorial. Ledermann's 69 first round score is tied for the seventh lowest 18-hole round score in program history. Ledermann co-leads the Shockers by placing in a tie for 13th place.
Mirnik tied the 13th lowest 18-hole score in program history with a 70 in the second round, earning a tie for 13th place with Ledermann. Gavrilla Arya shot an even-par in the first round, shooting a 76 in the second round to place in a tie for 35th heading into the final round. Laine Evans and Annika Chickering are tied for 61st after compiling a 151 each.
Wichita State tied the fifth lowest 18-hole team score in program history in the first round, shooting 289 as a team. The Shockers came up with their lowest round score of the season, last obtaining that score in the second round of the 2016 Missouri Valley Championship.
The Shockers collected a 292 in the second round, tying for the 10th lowest round score in program history. Wichita State previously shot a 292 at the Payne Stewart Memorial earlier this season.
Gonzaga sits in first place with 569 and Cal State Fullerton trailing by four strokes. The Shockers are in eighth place after the first two rounds, trailing Wyoming by just two strokes.
