Shockers Set 22 Personal Records

LUBBOCK, Texas –
Wichita State's track and field student-athletes set 22 personal records Friday at the Red Raider Shootout.
 
No. 2 Texas Tech hosted the Red Raider Shootout quadrangular between Texas Tech, Kansas State, Nebraska and Wichita State Friday. The Shocker men placed third with 122 points, 24 points ahead of fourth place Kansas State. No. 2 Texas Tech won the meet with 213.5 points and Nebraska finished second with 206.5 points. The Shocker women finished in fourth with 112 points, seven points behind third place No. 13 Kansas State. No. 17 Texas Tech won the meet with 218 points, 18 points ahead of second place Nebraska.
 
Individually the Shockers set 22 personal records, including 13 on the women's side and nine on the men's side. Kendra Henry highlighted the day as the only Shocker male or female to set three personal best. Alexi Whatley, Amanda Kakoulias and Richard Sandefur were the only other Shockers to set at least two personal best.
 
Men
The day was highlighted by the 400m, 400m hurdles and long jump as the only events with at least two Shockers finishing in the top-five.  In the 400m hurdles, Austin Corley led the Shockers finishing second in the race with a time of 51.22 and Isaac Poe ran 52.79 to finish fourth. Adam Mudge recorded a personal best time of 57.54 to finish seventh.
 
Austin Gauzy led the way in the 400m finishing third with a personal best time of 48.03, followed by Jace Coppoc in fourth with a personal best 48.25. Jake Horsch rounded out the top-five running 48.30.
 
True Freshman Rayvon Allen set a personal best 7.67m/25-2 to place fourth in the long jump, just ahead of teammate Jared Belardo in fifth place with a mark of 7.57m/24-10.
 
Three Shockers finished with a personal best in the 200m, including Richard Sandefur (22.06), Denvoir Griffin (22.08) and Miles Griffith (22.84).  Sandefur also set a personal best in the 100m with a time of 10.96 and Isaiah Evans set a personal best in the shot put with a mark of 14.28m/46-10.25.
 
Women
The women's team set a total of 13 personal records, including seven in the field events and six in running events.
 
Kendra Henry set three personal best, starting with the javelin (43.90m/144-0), followed by the long jump (5.00m/16-5) and 100m hurdles (15.44). Amanda Kakoulias and Alexi Whatley were the only other Shocker women to set at least two personal bests. Kakoulias set personal best in the discus (40.76m/133-9) and shot put (13.39m/43-11.25), while Whatley set personal best in the 100m hurdles (14.68) and 400m hurdles (1:02.87).
 
Meghan Holmes set a personal best in the long jump with a mark of 5.70m/18-8.5, she finished 10th overall. True freshman Mia Moret recorded a personal best in the pole vault clearing 3.42m/11-2.5. Fellow freshman Cassidy Androff set a personal best in the hammer throw with a mark of 41.00m/134-6.
 
Paula Garcia finished as the top Shocker in the 200m with a personal best time of 24.57, good enough for sixth place. McKenna Paintin finished fourth in the 1500m with a personal best time of 4:53.38 and Emma Stamm ran 2:20.02 to finish ninth overall in the 800m, fast enough for a personal best.
 
At the Drake Relays, Zack Penrod highlighted the day finishing fourth in the 1500m with a time of 3:49.93. The men's 4x1600m relay team of Ben Flowers, Stan Skwarlo, III, Cory Landon and Austin Sturdy placed fourth (17:22.33) and the 4x800m relay team of Connor Stine, Landon, Sturdy and Flowers ran 7:58.21 to place seventh.
 
Drake Relays continues Saturday as the men's distance medley relay races at 12:25 p.m., and Meagan Williams is entered to throw the shot put, hammer and javelin at the Southwestern College Relays.
 
The Shockers are next in action as host of the Shocker Open on Friday, May 4.
