WICHITA, Kan. – The Wichita State track and field program travels to Fayetteville, Ark., to compete in the Arkansas Spring Invitational on Friday, March 23 and Saturday, March 24.
Despite the throwers and the multi-event athletes, the Arkansas Spring Invitational will be the 2018 outdoor season opener for the majority of the athletes.
The two-day meet begins with the men's hammer throw, as the only event, on Friday at 3:30 p.m., women follow.
Men's Team
The horizontal jumps duo
Rayvon Allen and
Jared Belardo look to kick start their outdoor season with strong performances in the long jump and triple jump, each are coming off of All-Conference indoor seasons. Belardo will compete in the triple jump, while Allen will compete in the long jump and triple jump. The high jump trio of
Austin Chippeaux,
Miles Griffith and
Kole Konrade had impressive indoor seasons, each will enter in the respected event that starts Saturday at 6 p.m.
Hayden Bugner who earned indoor All-Conference leads the pole vault group of
Eric Etie and
Zach Kudlinski. School record holder in the 60m,
Denvoir Griffin makes his 2018 outdoor season debut running the 200m on Saturday at 6:20 p.m.
Clifford Robinson III,
Louis Rivers IV and
Richard Sandefur enter the event as well. Sandefur and Robinson III are also entered in the 100m dash. The Shocks have four athletes running the 400m at 5:25 p.m.,
Jace Coppoc,
Adam Gauzy,
Jake Horsch and
Erick Ngaiza.
Isaac Poe,
Austin Corley and
Adam Mudge each enter the 400m hurdles. The 800m and 1500m feature four indoor All-Conference athletes, including the American Athletic Conference champion in the mile
Zack Penrod running the 800m.
Stan Skwarlo, III earned All-Conference as a member of the DMR team and he's entered in the 800m along with
Aaron Miller. The Shocks enter 10 athletes in the 1500m, led by All-Conference athletes
Austin Sturdy and
Nathan Wickoren. The throws group come into the meet after having strong performances last week at Emporia State.
Aaron True won the javelin with a mark of 69.18m/227-0 and
Damien Odle placed third (66.18m/217-1).
Isaiah Evans and
Jeff Ast each enter the discus after setting personal best in the respected event a week ago, Ast will also compete in the shot put while Evans will enter the hammer throw along with
Tyler Patterson.
Women's Team
Meghan Holmes leads the women's team as the only Shocker to of earned indoor All-Conference honors, she looks to carry that momentum into the 2018 outdoor season. Holmes enters the long jump, along with freshman
Skaila White who is also entered in the triple jump. The Shocks enter the javelin with a strong group of throwers, including
Meagan Williams,
Kelsey Tenbrink,
Krisha Parmar,
Emily Gardiner and
Amanda Kakoulias. Kakoulias and Williams enter the shot put as well, along with
Cassidy Androff,
Tyra Bickham and
Kelsey Slawson. Bickham will enter the discus throw as well, while Androff will enter the discus and hammer along with Williams. The pole vault group enter three freshman, including
Jewel Eck,
Mia Moret and
Alyssa Wheeler. Eck and Wheeler each competed at the 2018 American Athletic Conference championships in Birmingham, Ala. The high jump duo of
Katie Murray and
Shania VanNoster competed well all indoor season battling back and forth, they enter the respected event along with
Abbi Bird that jumps on Saturday at 3 p.m.
Deja Young enters the 100m and 200m, while
Paula Garcia enters the 100m as her only event.
Alexi Whatley will compete in both hurdles events, she runs the 100m hurdles on Saturday at 4:05 p.m., and the 400m hurdles at 5:15 p.m. The Shocks enter multiple athletes in the middle distance and distance races, freshman Winny Koskei leads the 3000m group of
Katie Cumpston,
Deidra Walker and
Suzie Wright.
McKenna Paintin and
Tangy Wiseman enter the 1500m, while
Kelsey Lathrop and
Emma Stamm enter the 800m.
Morgan Prather is the lone Shocker running the 400m on Saturday at 5:15 p.m.
