Shockers Tested Against In-State Rivals

MANHATTAN, Kan.
- Wichita State's track and field program competed with 26 men and 26 women Saturday against in-state rivals Kansas State and Kansas in the annual Triangular, Shocker men finished second and the women came in third.

The Shocker men won two events, Jake Horsch ran a personal best in the 600yd to finish first and Austin Corley won the 400m in a personal best 48.74. Horsch and Corley weren't the only Shockers with personal best, multiple athletes finished the day with new personal best marks in their respected events, including Isaiah Evans in the shot put (13.46m/44-2.25), Ben Flowers in the mile (4:22.78), Ben Johnson in the 60m hurdles (8.24), Denvoir Griffin in the 60m (6.86), Stan Skwarlo in the 1000m (2:32.52) and Josh Klein in the 3000m (8:46.54).

Jared Belardo took second in the triple jump with a mark of 15.65m/51-4-.25 and true freshman Rayvon Allen placed third with a mark of 15.37m/50-5.25, which puts him on the all-time list at fourth best. Allen continued with a strong performance finishing second in the long jump (7.29m/23-11), followed by Belardo in fourth with a mark of 7.06m/23-2.

On the women's side, the Shockers were well represented in the weight throw and shot put. Meagan Williams finished third (16.01m/52-6.50) and Kelsey Slawson placed fifth with a mark of 15.59m/51-1.75 weight throw, which is tenth best in Shocker history. Slawson continued to perform well finishing in second with a mark of 14.83m/48-8.25 in the shot put. The women's long jump group finished second and third, on her first attempt Meghan Holmes jumped 5.65m/18-6.5 which ended up being good enough for second. Skaila White had a mark of 5.09m/16-8.5, which ended up being good enough for third place. Holmes also took third places in the triple jump with a mark of 11.88m/38-11.75. Alesa Frey continues to perform well in th pole vault finishing in second place clearing 3.70m/12-1.5.

Shocker freshman Amanda Kakoulias continues to impress, this time it was setting a personal best in the weight throw with a toss of 12.17m/39-1.25. Winny Koskei set a personal best in her respected event finishing fourth in the 3000m with a time of 10:10.39 and McKenna Paintin finished fourth in the mile with a personal best 5:12.52.

The Shockers are next in action Thursday, Jan. 18 in Colorado Springs, Colo., at the Air Force Combined Events Meet, followed by the Air Force Team Challenge on Friday, Jan. 19.
