WSU Women Win at UTSA, Men Second

SAN ANTONIO  --  Wichita State's women won the team title and the men were second at the Texas San Antonio Track and Field Invitational at Park West Saturday.

WSU's women led the seven-team field at the end of the two-day meet with 148 points and two champions with Stephen F. Austin coming in second with 125 points. Houston was third with 106 points and Sam Houston State was fourth with 103.5 points to round-out the 100-plus point team scorers.

On the men's side Stephen F. Austin won with 174 points to the Shockers' 114.5 points as runner-up. Houston was third with 11 points and host UTSA was fourth with 106 points as the teams with more than 100 points.

Women's highlights from Saturday included:

Jordan Maestas won the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 11:41.97.

Emilea Finley, Sidney Hirsch and Lycia Hollon took the top three spots in the 5,000 meters with times of 17:22.33, 17:22.34, and 17:45.27, respectively.

Taylor Larch-Miller won the 400 meter hurdles in a time of 1:00.55.

Jamesia Milton finished second in the shot put with the sixth-best toss in Shocker history with a distance of 46-6.25 (14.118m). Kelsey Slawson was third with a throw of 46-3.5 (14.11m), which is the seventh-best in WSU's top 10 behind Milton.

Kayla Deighan was second in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:46.69, while Ashley Peterson finished second in the high jump with a height of 5-7.75 (1.72m) and Marteshia Caines was second in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 14.21.

For the men, Cody Scheck was the lone champion on Saturday, and the second overall with Dylan Reimer's javelin title on Friday, with a time of 21.19 in the 200 meters.

Notable second-place finishes for the men on Saturday included:

Austin Chippeaux in the high jump, 6-8.75 (2.05m)

Kyle Larkin in the 3,000m steeplechase, 9:43.75

Ugis Jocis in the 5,000 meters in a time of 14:49.41. Paul Raymond was third with a time of 15:16.82.

In Friday's rain-delayed action, Dylan Reimer won the javelin with a throw of 222-2 (67.74m), while Chase Pote was third with a throw of 210-8 (64.22m). 

Taylor Goldsmith was second in the Hammer Throw, the second of the two men's events that were completed before the delay, with a throw of 202-7 (61.77m).

On the women's side, Sadie Suenram was second in the discus with a throw of 151-0 (46.03m), while in the Hammer, Jamesia Milton was fourth with a throw of 190-3 (58.00m). Milton's Hammer Throw was the third-best in Shocker history and earned her a fourth-place finish.

The women's javelin trio of Andrea NavarroCarlea Holt and Kelsey Tenbrink finished fourth, fifth and sixth with throws of 139-2 (42.43), 137-2 (41.83) and 133-5 (40.67), respectively.
