KANSAS CITY, Mo.- Five Shockers landed in the top-20 as the Wichita State women's golf team won the Gary Crossley Ford Kansas City Shootout on Tuesday at Shoal Creek Golf Club.
As a team, the Shockers carded a 926 (306-301-319) to finish 11-shots ahead of runner-up South Dakota State.
Sophomore Meghan Schuetz led the way with a 231 (82-72-77) to finish in sixth place, while Alejandra Villalobos also finished in the top-10 with a 233 (82-72-80) that put her in a tie for ninth. Alejandra Arellano finished in a tie for 12th with a 235 (73-80-82), while Samantha Stewart (75-83-80) and Bryce Schroeder (77-77-84) each carded a 238 to finish in a tie for 20th.
Playing as individuals, Madison Murphy shot a 243 (82-80-81) to finish in a tie for 34th and Daniela Rugeles finished in a tie for 60th with a 253 (87-85-81).
“It was a really good team effort and everyone contributed,” head coach Tom McCurdy said. “We have been close to winning a tournament all season and it is a nice feeling to know that we can win one.”
“Heading into the conference tournament, there is no better time to put a win in our pocket.”
Wichita State will head to the Missouri Valley Conference Championships on April 20-22 in Springfield, Ill. at Panther Creek Golf Course.
