WTen: Shockers Tally First Conference Win

WICHITA, Kan.- The Wichita State women's tennis team grabbed their first conference win of the season over Creighton, 6-1, on Sunday morning at Wichita Country Club.

The Shocker women dominated in doubles play, winning all three contests and only allowing the Bluejays to capture three games in the competition. Carla Venticinque and Rebecca Pedrazzi defeated Jennie Hartjes and Sam Anderson, 8-0, to give Wichita State the 1-0 lead.

At No. 1 singles, Pedrazzi defeated Hartjes, 6-1, 6-1 to move her singles record to 13-8 on the season. Lucia Kovalova defeated Analese Snyder, 6-2, 6-1 and Satjaporn Mahajaroenkul defeated Amanda Noonan, 6-0, 6-0, to clinch the match for Wichita State.

"We came out with great energy and execution in the doubles. That really set the tone for the day," said head coach Colin Foster. "Regardless of the score, we were competing really well, and that is something that is important to help us gain confidence after having lost the last few matches."

Wichita State will now play the next seven matches on the road, starting on Thursday, March 7 when they travel to Arlington, Texas to play UT-Arlington.
