RIO VERDE, Ariz.- Gretchen Huhnerkoch finished the Rio Verde
Invitational in a tie for sixth place in the Shocker women's first golf
tournament of the spring season. Wichita Sate finished thirteenth as a team.
Huhnerkoch was 11-over for the tournament, shooting a 224
over the three-day competition. In
the second round, Huhnerkoch shot an even par 71, which is her lowest round of
the 2011-12 season, and second lowest of her career. She shot a 72 three times
during the fall season.
Hannah Martin (T39) and Natalie Samb (T44) both finished in
the top 50 for the Shockers. Martin shot a 237 for the tournament, while Samb
was right behind her at 238.
As a team, the Shocks shot 32-over for the tournament, with
a score of 950. They shot a 317 in each of the first two rounds and a 316 in
the final round on Sunday.
"The girls, fundamentally, are doing well," said Head Coach
Tom McCurdy. "This was not the way we wanted to start the season, but I saw
some things we can build on."
Kansas took the tournament, shooting a 900 over three

The Shockers are back in action next weekend when they
travel to Monterey, Calif. to participate in the Del
Monte Invitational.
