Biography

As a Senior...Played in one tournament in the fall for the Shockers

As a Junior...Finished with a stroke average of 75.8...Shot 26 of her 30 rounds in the 70's or below. Finished in a tie for fifth at the MVC Championships. Was named to the MVC All-Conference Team and MVC Scholar-Athlete First Team. In the Spring, Huhnerkoch placed in the top ten in the Rio Verde Invitational (T6) and the UALR Women's Golf Classic (T2)...Her 54-hole score of 217 at the UALR Women's Golf Classic tied a WSU record and her third round score of 67 broke the WSU 18-hole record by three strokes. In the fall, Huhnerkoch played in all five tournaments for Wichita State...Led the team with a 75.73 stroke average and shot in the 70s in 14 of the 15 rounds she played...Runner-up medalist at the Hoosier Invitational, where she carded her new 54-hole low of 223 (72-77-74)...Tied for sixth at the Fighting Camel Classic with a 54-hole score of 231, the final fall tournament for WSU and was named MVC Golfer of the Week for her efforts...Tied for eighth at the Marilynn Smith Invitational with a 54-hole score of 225 (78-75-72) and tied for 11th at the Chip-N Club Invitational with a 54-hole score of 230 (79-74-77)...In the summer, the Minnesota native finished second at the 2011 Minnesota Women's State Amateur Championship.

As a Sophomore...Finished third on the team with a 77.83 stroke average and shot 18 rounds in the 70s...Finished tied for 11th at the MVC Tournament with a 36-hole score of 154 (78-76) ...finished fourth at the WSU Spring Invitational with a 36-hole score of 148 (76-72)...In the fall, Gretchen was the medalist of the Shocker Invitational held at Sand Creeek Station...Her 142 (72-70) at the Shocker Invitational is the best 36-hole score total in school history...Her final round 70 at the Shocker Invitational is tied for the lowest round in school history...Was named MVC Golfer of the Week for her win at the Shocker Invitational...Tied her low 54-hole score of 229 (75-79-75) at the Marilynn Smith Invitational...Named Academic All-Americans by the American Golf Coaches Association...Named to the MVC Women's Golf Athlete-Scholar team...Named to the 2010-11 WSU AD Honor Roll.

As a Freshman...Finished second on the team with a stroke average of 79.21...earned her best finish of fifth place at the Bob Hurley Auto Shootout hosted by Oral Roberts...finished tied for 15th at the Shocker Invitational (84-83)...shot her low 54-hole score of 229 (75-78-76) at the Bob Hurley Shootout...finished tied for 28th place at the MVC tournament with a 54-hole score of 242 (81-81-80)...was named to the 2010 National Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar team for earning a 3.5 GPA or higher.

Before she was a Shocker...Played for Coach Alan VanWyngarden at Burnsville Senior High School...Lettered in varsity golf beginning in seventh grade and each year that followed, three of which she served as the team captain... Four-time All-State honoree...Four-time All-Lake Conference honoree...Was both the section and conference champion twice...In the 2007 and 2008 seasons, Huhnerkoch won 9-of-24 tournaments she competed in...Tied a BHS low 9-hole round score of 31...In 2008 and 2009, named the Minnesota Golf Association (MGA) Junior Girl Player-of-the-Year...High School teammate of current Shocker golfer Natalie Samb, together they led BHS to a State Championship in 2007...Member of the National Honor Society for two years...Two-time Academic All-State letter winner.

Personal...Gretchen Diane Huhnerkoch was born on December 26, 1990 in Burnsville, Minn...Daughter of Gary and Debra Huhnerkoch...Has two sisters Annie and Lauren, who each played collegiate golf...Majoring in Exercise Science/Pre Physical Assistant at WSU and plans to be a Phyical Therapist to work with athletes on their rehab after her golf career ends...Also received scholarship offers from: Tulane, Rutgers, St. Johns, Georgetown, Missouri and Missouri State...Chose Wichita State because of its location, Coach Tom McCurdy, the girls on the team and "I'm a Midwest girl."
