St. Louis, Mo. - The No. 62 Drake Bulldogs defeated the Wichita State Shockers, 4-0 in the finals of the 2011 State Farm MVC Tennis Tournament.  The Bulldogs are now the MVC regular season and tournament champions and earned an automatic berth to the NCAA tournament.

Drake and Wichita State battled in all three of the doubles matches with the Shockers winning the first match in the No. 3 position.  Freshman Juan Estenssoro and sophomore Valentin Mihai won 8-4 over Robin Goodman and Cesar Bracho of Drake.

"We won the No. 3 doubles match and the No. 2 match came down to two shots," head coach Brad Louderback said. "No. 1 and No. 2 both went into tie-breakers and our guys fought hard.  Drake played very well today but the score was not indicative of how close the match really was."

Wichita State won the first set in three of the singles matches but fell just short in the in trying to overtake Drake.  James McKie clinched the match for the Bulldogs with his 6-3, 7-5 win against Shockers freshman Guillermo Nicol.
