Albuquerque, N.M. -The Wichita State Shockers (1-2) won their first match of the spring with their defeat of UTEP (0-4), 7-0 on Sunday at the New Mexico Invitational.  The Shockers dropped only one doubles match as they blanked the Miners in the consolation match.

After a sluggish start in yesterday's defeat to Texas Tech, WSU came out more focused on Sunday.  "Our level of tennis has been good, we addressed some of the little things we can control and do a better job of," head coach Colin Foster said.  "We continued to play good tennis today, but more importantly we did a better job of being locked in mentally from the start to finish and eliminated some of the loose mistakes from our previous matches."

Freshman Montse Blasco Fernandez and Veronika Blaskova put the first victory on the board for the Shockers with their defeat of Ximena Fuentes and Gabi Vasquez, 8-2.  Delia Damaschin and Carla Venticinque clinched the doubles point for Wichita State with their 8-2 defeat of Rebeca Calvillo and Marie LeBlond.

"We had some very impressive individual performances in our first two matches but today was a very complete team win," Foster said.

Reigning Missouri Valley Player of the Year No. 118 Lutfiana Budiharto clinched the match for the Shockers with her defeat of Martina Trierweiler, 6-4, 6-2.

Wichita State hosts their first home match of the season this Saturday against Southern Methodist at 10 a.m. at Genesis Westside.  They will host Creighton in the afternoon at Wichita Country Club with that match starting at 4 p.m.
