WICHITA - The Wichita State women's tennis team will begin its quest for the Shockers' fourth Missouri Valley Conference tournament title in five years on Friday.

After sweeping through the conference regular season undefeated for the second-straight season, the Shockers (12-10, 7-0) carry the No. 1 seed into the opening round of the 2010 State Farm MVC Tournament.

The regular-season champs, who've posted a 15-0 MVC record in the previous two seasons, are playing tournament host for the first time since the 2003-04 season. The three-day tournament is set up in an eight-seed format with four quarterfinal matches on Friday, semifinals on Saturday and the championship match on Sunday. Duals will be called as soon as they are won for scheduling purposes.

WSU will enter quarterfinals with a lineup that went 35-7 in Valley play, with four of the six singles spots posting perfect records. Their dominance showed on Thursday night when the MVC All-Conference teams were announced. Five of the six available slots went to the Shocks while sophomore Lutfiana Budiharto claimed Player of the Year honors.

No. 1 Wichita State will face No. 8 Bradley in the Shockers' first round match. WSU defeated the Braves, 7-0, in the pair's regular-season meeting on Apr. 10. A precautionary move kept Budiharto out of the lineup against the Braves. The nationally-ranked No. 48 sophomore wasn't out long and will lead the Shocks this weekend. Her 29-6 overall record and 13-4 mark this spring leads the team.

The senior class will pull a lot of weight, as well. Stephanie Dalmacio, Florentina Hanisch and Lenore Lazaroiu have put up a dazzling 20-1 singles record this season and will look to stay hot in Valley action.
