• The Wichita State plays in its final early season tournament of the season with games against Boise State and Texas Tech in Lubbock, Texas this weekend.

• The Shockers will face Boise State for the first time while they will see the Red Raiders for the second-straight weekend. TTU defeated WSU last weekend in a game that was scheduled due to weather issues. The Red Raiders came away with a 2-1 win despite solid pitching from WSU sophomore Kasha Kolb.

• Freshman Katie Armagost also had a big weekend, notching her first collegiate wins. The Wichita native came away with three of the four victories on the weekend, defeating Texas Southern, Prairie View A&M and UT-Arlington.

• The Shockers had a field day on the basepaths last weekend in Arlington, stealing nine bases in as many attempts to raise their season total to 16 steals in 18 attempts.

• Prior to this season, Heather Gerritse had four home runs in 119 career games. This season it's taken her just 12 games to double that total, thanks to a big weekend with three homers in Arlington last weekend.

• Sophomore Kersti Rowan is off to another fast start in 2010. Last season she stole her first 15 bases successfully and so far in 2010 she is 5-for-5 after three weekends of play. The Mesquite, Texas native is also carrying a hot bat, as she is second on the team with a .333 batting average.

• Just two games into the season the Shockers were well traveled. The team bused from Wichita to Shreveport to find several inches of snow and ice before going north for a doubleheader at Memphis. In all, the team traveled 1,443 miles last weekend.

• The Shockers return six position players and all three pitchers from a team that finished 21-32 in 2009. Among those returning for WSU is junior catcher Heather Gerritse, who was named first team all-MVC at the end of 2009 after leading the team with a .353 batting average. Senior second baseman Kara L'Huillier, a second team all-MVC pick a season ago, also returns for WSU.

• After being named first team all-MVC last season, Valley coaches tabbed catcher Heather Gerritse as a pre-season all-MVC selection in 2010.

• WSU returns 77-percent of its offense from last season that ranked third in the MVC with a team .262 batting average. The Shockers led the league in walks and on-base percentage and ranked in the top-3 in batting average, runs scored, hits, RBI, and total bases.

• With 47 votes, Wichita State was picked sixth in the Missouri Valley Conference preseason poll. Last season the Shockers (21-32, 10-15) finished tied for eighth.
