FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- The Wichita State men's tennis team dropped its third-consecutive match Friday, suffering a 5-2 setback to Pacific in the Razorback Invitational at the Dills Tennis Center in Fayetteville, Ark.

The Tigers jumped out early, taking two of three doubles matches from the Shockers, and never looked back. Pacific took four of six singles matches en route to the 5-2 decision. 

Wichita State's only doubles win came from the No. 2 position, where Adrian Chermaci and Vlad Marinescu defeated UP's Artem Gramma and Ryan Kim, 8-5. The remaining two doubles matches belonged to the Tigers. Pacific's Moritz Starke and Renan Delsin defeated Michal Zawadzki and Jonathan Obrist, 8-5, in the No. 1 match, while the Tiger tandem of Karl-Erik Paaro and Christian Kuehne took the No.3 match from Matt Teivans and David Cavalcanti by a final count of 8-2. 

Pacific continued to roll in singles play, taking the first two singles decisions of the match in straight sets, and bringing the Tigers to within one singles win of clinching the match. Paaro defeated Teivans in the No. 5 match, 6-1, 6-1, while Starke defeated Zawadzki in the No. 1 match, 6-2, 6-1. 

Cavalcanti put the Shockers on the board in the No. 6 match, defeating Kuehne in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2. Marinescu followed with a straight set, 6-4, 6-4 decision over Vegerd Veskimagi in the No. 3 match, bringing the Shockers within one win of tying the dual, but the Tigers finished the deal, sweeping the remaining matches, but needing three sets to do so. Gramma defeated Obrist in three sets, 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 2 match, while Delsin finished with a 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (3) win over Chermaci in the No. 4 match.

The loss drops the Shockers to 0-3 on the young season. They will look for their first win Saturday when they take on Oregon in a noon match. Results will be posted on goshockers.com as they become available.
