WICHITA, Kan. -- The Wichita State women's tennis team fell behind early, and could never rebound in a 4-2 loss Saturday at the Wichita Country Club. The match was moved indoors as drizzle engulfed the Wichita area Sunday morning.
The Jaguars took control of the match early. In the No. 1 match, USA's Adrianna Solarova defeated WSU's Stephanie Dalmacio in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3, while USA's Michaela Babicova took the No. 2 match with a 6-4, 6-0 win over WSU's Anna Egorova. The No. 3 match went to USA's Erica Krisan, who defeated WSU's Florentina Hanisch 6-4, 6-0.
The Shockers picked up their first win in the No. 4 match, when Torrie Browning defeated Sylvanie Spangenberg in a 5-7, 6-1, 6-3 decision. Torrie Browning followed suit with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Katie Welch in the No. 5 match, but South Alabama claimed the match with a No. 6 singles win as Jelena Krivacevic defeated Laryssa Ferreira 7-5, 6-3.
With the loss, the Shockers fall to 7-6 on the season. They open Valley play Saturday, April 5 with a home match against Evansville. First serve at Sheldon Coleman Tennis Complex is slated for 1 p.m.
