WICHITA, Kan. - Two senior men and two sophomore women will represent Wichita State at the MCC Clay Court Championships this weekend in Montgomery, Ala. The event is hosted by Auburn University-Montgomery, the defending NAIA National Champions.
Seniors Thiago Dos Santos and Albert Ballesta will represent WSU on the men's side, while sophomores Stephanie Dalmacio and Lenore Lazaroiu will represent the Shocker women's squad.
Competition will not be easy, as several of the nation's elite tennis programs will be represented. Teams participating include Clemson, Auburn-Montgomery, Wichita State, Lindsey Wilson, Winthrop and West Florida. Additionally, Troy and Idaho will compete on the men's side while Southeast Missouri State and Clayton State will send their women only.
"Our kids are excited for this tournament," said Chris Young, Director of Tennis. "The opportunity for these four to play a collegiate clay court tournament is unique. The teams represented are some of the best in the country at various levels, so our players will be challenged."
