Alexander Breaks School Record, Punches Ticket to NCAA Championships

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Wichita State's Jelese Alexander claimed the Shockers' outright school record in the high jump, advancing to the NCAA Outdoor Championships Saturday afternoon at the NCAA West Preliminaries at John McDonnell Field.
 
The senior from Trinidad and Tobago cleared 1.87m/6'1.5", a one-centimeter personal best to tie for the final advancing spot to the national meet.
 
On Thursday at the NCAA West Prelims, sophomore Shellamae Farmer placed 25th in the pole vault with a clearance of 4.08m/13'4.5", and Lucy Ndungu finished 19th in the 10,000 meters with a time of 33:28.83.  Alexander also competed in the long jump, recording a mark of 6.08m/19'11.5" to place 33rd.
 
Wichita State will have four entries at the NCAA Outdoor Championships from June 10-13 in Eugene, Ore. as Jason Parrish and Josh Parrish will join Alexander at Hayward Field to compete in the 400-meter hurdles, 110-meter hurdles and long jump.
