LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas scored five runs in the first inning and never looked back in a dominant 10-0 run-rule win Tuesday night at Arrocha Ballpark, snapping Wichita State's 12-game win streak.
With the loss, Wichita State (32-16) dropped both midweek games vs. Kansas this season by run rule.
Johnna Schroeder had two of the Shockers' three hits.
Kinzey Woody was the only other Shocker to reach base in the game.
Ryley Nihart (15-10) was roughed up in the start. She didn't record an out, allowing five runs on three hits and two walks.
Jade Sanders allowed one run in 3.0 innings and
Gabby Fakes surrendered four runs, only two earned, in the final inning.
KU jumped on the Shockers in the bottom of the first, scoring five runs. Two batters in, the Jayhawks were on the board with a two-run home run.
The Jayhawks added a run in the second on a solo home run, upping their lead to 6-0.
After a scoreless third, KU put the run-rule into effect with a four-run bottom of the fourth.
