WICHITA, Kan. - Kansas spoiled Wichita State's 2026 home opener with a 9-1 win in 5 innings Wednesday night at Wilkins Stadium.
Wichita State (10-8) managed just three hits at the plate, while committing three errors on the defensive side.
Gabby Scott had two of the three hits on a pair of infield singles. The lone run came on
Ausha Moore's solo home run, her team-leading fifth of the season. Moore extended her hit streak to six in a row.
Ryley Nihart dropped to 3-5 in the circle, as she was touched up for seven earned runs on 10 hits and two walks.
Wichita State turned the first of three double plays on the night in the top of the first, but a two-out walk turned into back-to-back home runs to give the Jayhawks an early 3-0 lead.
KU added another run in the second to make it 4-0.
Moore broke up the shutout in the home half of the third on her dead center solo home run.
In the top of the fifth, the Jayhawks put five runs on the board to bring the run-rule into effect. Ella Boyer hit her second home run of the night to ignite the big inning.
