Bowling Preview: Big Red Invite

LINCOLN, Neb. -- The #4-ranked Wichita State women's bowling team takes part in the nation's premier bowling tournament this upcoming weekend, competing at the loaded Big Red Invite at Hollywood Bowl in Lincoln. The tournament begins Friday, February 20 and concludes on Sunday, February 22.

Wichita State had good success at last season's Big Red Invite, placing second thanks in large part to an MVP performance from Mary Orf. Piper Reams and Ashtyn Woods also placed top-10 individually, while the Shockers notched team wins over Elmhurst, Central Missouri, Quincy, Arkansas State and McKendree.

The 2026 Big Red Invite will feature the top eight ranked teams in the country, as ranked by the latest NTCA poll.

The schedule of the tournament is as follows:
  • Friday - Five Baker matches starting at 9:00 AM CT
  • Saturday - Five traditional matches starting at 10:00 AM CT
  • Sunday - One traditional match starting at 8:55 AM CT followed by two best-of-seven Baker match to determine final placings

  • Match 2 vs. #5 Louisiana Tech (lanes 21-22)
  • Match 3 vs. #1 Jacksonville State (lanes 9-10)
  • Match 4 vs. Quincy (lanes 15-16)
  • Match 5 vs. #6 Nebraska (lanes 19-20)
Saturday (Traditional Format)
  • Match 6 vs. Western Illinois (lanes 9-10)
  • Match 7 vs. #2 Vanderbilt (lanes 7-8)
  • Match 8 vs. #8 Youngstown State (lanes 15-16)
  • Match 9 vs. #7 Maryville (lanes 13-14)
  • Match 10 vs. #3 Arkansas State (lanes 9-10)
Sunday (Traditional Format)
  • Match 11 vs. #14 Sam Houston (lanes 19-20)
Baker matches are structured with five players combining to bowl one game, each bowling two frames. Player one bowls frames 1 and 6, player two bowls frames 2 and 7, player three bowls frames 3 and 8, player four bowls frames 4 and 9 and player 5 bowls frames 5 and 10. In traditional matches, five players each bowl an individual game, with all five games added together.

Wichita State has been one of the hottest teams in the country as of late, climbing to #4 in the February NTCA poll after a runner-up finish at the Saints Invite last time out. Overall, the Shockers bring a 59-19 record into play on Friday in Lincoln.
