ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- Wichita State dominated the field over the first two days at the Saints Invite but had to settle for second place after two close losses to #11 Sacred Heart on Sunday afternoon at Shrewsbury Lanes.

Junior Sara Duque Jiménez delivered one of the best individual performances in Shocker history, earning MVP honors with a 243.6 average, a full 12 pins better than second place and the top tournament average in Wichita State's NCAA history. She was joined on the All-Tournament Team by sophomore Morgan Kline, who fired a 254 and a 246 on her way to fifth place (228.2 average).

Wichita State (59-19) went 9-1 over the first two days of competition, breaking 1,000 in nine of the ten matches. The showing was punctuated by an incredible Saturday where the Shockers rolled to a 5-0 record with four scores of 1,100 or better, including a 1,201 against Sacred Heart for the third-best traditional match score in program history.

All told, WSU picked up wins against #4 Nebraska, #5 Louisiana Tech, #11 Sacred Heart, #18 Valparaiso, #19 McKendree, and #25 Central Missouri. The only defeat in the first two days came at the hands of #12 Wright State, 1,097-958 in a Baker match.

The Shockers entered Sunday as the #1 seed in the bracket but suffered a 4-3 defeat to Sacred Heart in the opening round. After bouncing back with a 4-1 decision against UAB to reach the final, Wichita State again came up short against the Pioneers, this time by a 4-2 scoreline.

The second-place finish is Wichita State's fourth top-three result of the season, joining second at Destination Orlando, first at the Track Kat Klash, and third at the Northeast Classic.

The Shockers have a week off before continuing their spring schedule at the Big Red Invite in Lincoln, Nebraska. The tournament begins Friday, February 20 and concludes Sunday, February 22.
