Shockers Swept by Owls

BOCA RATON, Fla. -- Wichita State dropped their seventh consecutive game on Saturday afternoon, falling 7-4 to Florida Atlantic as the Owls completed the three-game sweep at FAU Baseball Stadium.

The Shockers (12-27, 4-11) managed just one hit through the first five innings against FAU starter James Litman (3-1) and squandered several late scoring opportunities as the Owls (27-12, 9-6) built upon their lead. FAU broke a scoreless deadlock in the bottom of the third inning with a bases-loaded walk and a sacrifice fly, then pushed the lead to 3-0 when John Martinez blooped an RBI double.

Josh Livingston got Wichita State on the board with a sacrifice fly that cut the deficit to 3-1 in the top of the sixth, but the Owls reestablished control with a three-spot in the bottom of the seventh. A crucial WSU throwing error opened the door for consecutive run-scoring fielder's choices before Jake Millan poked a two-out RBI single that gave FAU a 6-1 lead.

Ryan Callahan pulled the Shockers a run closer in the eighth, bouncing an RBI single through the right side to score Livingston, but Florida Atlantic's Marshall Lipsey stole home in the bottom of the inning to restore the five-run cushion.

Jordan Rogers kept the Shockers hopes alive with a two-out, two-run homer in the top of the ninth, but Owls reliever Steven Andrews fanned Livingston to end the game.

Brady Hamilton (1-5) suffered the loss for Wichita State despite a career-best 6.0 innings of work, allowing five hits and three runs while striking out two. Litman earned the win, tagged for just one run on three hits in 5.1 frames.

Camden Johnson logged a three-hit game to spearhead the Wichita State offensive effort.

The Shockers are back in action on Tuesday night at Kansas State. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 pm CT.
