MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State hit six home runs to knock off Wichita State 14-8 on Tuesday night at Tointon Family Stadium.
Â
Shintaro Inoue and Dee Kennedy each connected for a pair of homers, while David Bishop and AJ Evasco added one apiece. The Wildcats (24-17) had four innings of three runs.
Â
Wichita State (12-28) struck for the first run of the game in the top of the first, taking advantage of a two-base error that set the stage for a
Josh Livingston RBI single. Inoue's first long ball of the night answered the run in the home half of the inning, then the Wildcats grabbed the lead for good in the second with three runs. A wild pitch from Shocker starter
Tyler Dobbs (1-3) and a two-run blast from Evasco put Kansas State in front, 4-1.
Â
The Wildcats got a Bishop homer in the fourth and four consecutive two-out hits in the fifth to blow the game open, swelling their lead to 8-1.
Â
The Shocker offense put up seven runs from the sixth through the eighth innings to tighten the game up again;
Mauricio Millan roped an RBI double to open the rally, followed by an RBI groundout from
Davis Mauzy and a
Camden Johnson sacrifice fly. In the seventh,
Ryan Callahan tacked on a sacrifice fly before
Gannon Snyder came off the bench to rope an RBI triple. Millan scored Snyder with a ground out, a feat matched by
Jordan Rogers when he plated Johnson in the top of the eighth to cut the deficit to 11-8.
Â
Kennedy's second home run of the night in the bottom of the eighth provided the final margin.
Â
Kansas State starter Tanner Duke earned the win, allowing just one unearned run over 5.0 innings while striking out three. Wildcats pitchers did not issue a walk in the game.
Â
Millan and
Kam Durnin each logged three hits to lead the way for Wichita State.
Â
The Shockers are back in action on Friday against South Florida. First pitch of the series opener is scheduled for 6:00 pm from Eck Stadium.
