Giorgia Roselli fell short in an incredible match against Furman's Lillie Murphy and Elle Warren on Sunday in the third-place doubles match at the ITA Conference Masters.
The Shockers were defeated 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (14-12), ending their hopes of a bid to the 2025 NCAA Doubles Championship.
After splitting the first six games evenly at three apiece in the opening set, the Shockers seized control, breaking Furman twice on serve on their way to a 6-4 set victory.
In the second set, the teams split the first four games, but Furman took advantage afterward, winning several key points over the next four games for a 6-2 set victory that forced a super tiebreaker.
In the super tiebreaker, the Shockers jumped out to a 4-1 lead, but Furman responded, winning seven of the next nine points to take an 8-6 lead. On the next point, an out call by Furman was overruled by the chair umpire, keeping the Shockers within range at 8-7. After the Shockers won the next point, the teams traded blows, ultimately ending up tied 12-12 at the next changeover. After switching sides, Furman broke through to win the next two points, taking the super tiebreaker 14-12 and clinching the final spot in the NCAA Doubles Championship.
Wang and Roselli end the fall with a 10-5 record as a doubles team and as the 2025 American Athletic Conference doubles champions.
