EUGENE, Ore. – Wichita State's
Destiny Masters earned her fourth and fifth career All-America honors with her top-16 performances in the high jump and heptathlon on the final day of the NCAA Outdoor Championships at Hayward Field.
The junior from El Dorado, Kan. cleared 1.77m/5'9.75" to tie for 15
th in the high jump in between the sixth and seventh events of the heptathlon. Masters is now the only high jumper in Shocker history to claim two outdoor All-America awards, earning Second Team status for the second-straight year.
After a strong day one in the heptathlon, Masters held on to end up 13
th overall on day two, claiming her second Second Team All-America honor of the day.
Masters opened day two of the heptathlon with a jump of 5.63m/18'5.75" in the long jump, over a foot off her personal best, dropping from seventh to 10
th overall. She recorded the eighth-best javelin mark of the day, throwing 38.46m/126'2" to sit in 11
th going into the final event. With a season best of 2:28.11 in the 800 meters, Masters secured a 13
th-place finish overall in the heptathlon in her first career NCAA heptathlon.
Three Shocker freshmen will compete in the USATF U20 Championships June 12-13 at Hayward Field to conclude their first collegiate season.
