EUGENE, Ore. – Wichita State's
Brady Palen was named First Team All-American for his eight-place performance in the high jump at the NCAA Outdoor Championships Friday at Hayward Field.
The senior from Beloit, Kan. cleared 2.17m/7'1.5" on second attempt to secure his second First Team All-America award. His eighth-place finish is the second-highest NCAA outdoor men's high jump finish in Shocker history behind Temoer Terry's 6
th-place performance in 1974. Palen is now a two-time First Team All-American with an addition All-America honorable mention from the 2023 outdoor championships.
With his one point scored toward the Shockers' team total, Wichita State placed 66
th out of 136 teams.
Destiny Masters completed day one of the heptathlon, ending the day in seventh place. The junior from El Dorado, Kan. opened the day with a time of 13.82 in the 100-meter hurdles to sit in ninth with 1,004 points. In the high jump, she had two huge third-attempt clearances of 1.81m/5'11.25" and 1.84m/6'0.5" to move up into second overall with 2,033 points. Her jump was the second-highest of the competition.
In the third event, Masters saved her best throw for last, throwing 12.37m/40'7", the 11
th-best throw of the day to sit in sixth overall with 2,719 points. She finished the day with a personal-best 200-meter time of 25.09 and sits in seventh with 3,598 points heading into day two.
Day two of the heptathlon opens with the long jump on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. CT/10:30 a.m. PT, and she will also contest the open high jump at 4 p.m. CT/2 p.m. PT.
