Jobe, Blow Lead Shockers Past Missouri Southern

WICHITA – Tre'Zure Jobe and Salese Blow led Wichita State to a 75-65 exhibition win over Missouri Southern State Wednesday evening in Charles Koch Arena.

"It was a great effort for us," first-year head coach Terry Nooner said. "I'm happy with us getting a win and everybody getting a chance to play. We had a great crowd that was into the game, so it was a fun experience for us."

After a slow first quarter where the Shockers shot 31.6% from the field compared to the Lions' 46.7%, redshirt senior Tre'Zure Jobe sparked some momentum, scoring the Shockers' first 11 points of the second quarter and hitting a three with 3:48 left in the half to give Wichita State its first lead of the game.

"She turned it on for us with her defense and got a couple steals and runout layups to get us going," Nooner said.

Jobe recorded five steals and scored 16 first-half points with 14 of them coming in the second quarter on her way to a team-high 22 points.

The Shockers came out of the break up 37-33 and increased their lead to 10 in the third quarter.

Wichita State's defense left the Lions scoreless for over 7 minutes at the end of the third and beginning of the fourth quarter, while the Shockers went on an 18-0 run to go up 63-45.

Freshman Salese Blow caught fire early in the fourth quarter, scoring seven of her 16 total points within two minutes.

"At the beginning of the game, I won't lie; I was really nervous, but after scoring and getting myself going and getting locked in on defense, I felt like all my worries slowly drifted away," Blow said. "And once I kept scoring, I was like, 'Oh, yeah, I'm locked in. I'm good."

Sophomore Daniela Abies also got going late in the game tallying eight fourth-quarter points to record the lone double-double of the game with 10 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.

Junior Ella Anciaux gathered eight boards, and senior Ambah Kowcun blocked two shots for the Shockers.

Wichita State capitalized off the Lions' 27 turnovers, scoring 29 points off turnovers but didn't protect the ball well themselves with 20 turnovers.
