WICHITA, Kan. – Wichita State men's golfers
Dawson Lewis and
Lucas Scheufler were named American Men's Golf Players of the Week, the conference announced Monday.
It is the first individual weekly award for both, and also the first AAC honor for the program since
Marcus Wochner was tabbed Player of the Week on March 24, 2021.
The tandem powered Wichita State to a third place finish at the Twin Oaks Intercollegiate in Springfield, tying for third place on the individual leaderboard. Lewis and Scheufler both signed off at four-under, one stroke back of Valparaiso's Yianni Kostouros and individual champion Dustin Hasley of Oral Roberts.
Lewis (66-72—138, -4) led the tournament with 10 birdies, while Scheufler (65-73—138, -4) recorded nine birdies, as well as Wichita State's only eagle on the 18th hole of the second round. Lewis and Scheufler also recorded the two best scores on Par 4s, averaging 3.84 strokes for the tournament, and both set new career bests in the first round. Lewis shot a 66, while Scheufler carded a 65, tied for the best individual round of the tournament.
The Shockers will look to build off the third-place finish with a trip to the Redhawk Invitational in University Place, Washington on April 4-5.
